One day the brake lights stopped working
But we all still had places to be
And soon new cars and used cars and overused cars
Was a distinction that no one could see

Because every stop bumped a fender
And every start cost the fee
Of fearing the road was forevermore stained
As we each swerved to dodge the debris

One day the brake lights stopped working
And we all still had places to be
But before long we learned how to get there
To drive like we love was the key
A little ditty I came up with while driving around the other day.
Could easily accommodate a few more verses.  It stops abruptly for my tastes, but it was only really intended as an illustration of a metaphor.

Such a direct relation to the happenings of life.
So often we can never stop in time before it's too late.

I witnessed an accident once on the freeway...   directly in front of me.
It was raining and a quarter of a mile ahead of me, I watched as
a careless dunkard...  (who knows) merged without looking into oncoming traffic
in front of me. I was going slow enough to slow down with plenty of time.
The driver took out at least 4 cars if I remember right - in domino. and after all the
chaos cleared moments later....  a path was before me while - one - single totalled
wreck, passed me on the left. I was working my shuttle job and could not stop....

because I wasn't involved. -_-
